The first thing is to get your bird to an Avian Vet ONLY. I mean right away because he is sick. The first thing we recommend with new birds is a trip to the avian vet because he is sick and that is why he's not eating.

His diet, when he is well, if he gets well, should be 80-85% organic pellets. The changeover from seeds takes time, and until he has been diagnosed and treated by an Avian Vet ONLY, he cannot tolerate stress of any dietary changes.

This bird is going to die. He is a rescue, and the first thing people do with rescues whether they are birds, dogs, cats, horses, pigs, etc. is to take them for examination by a vet. In the case of birds, they have to be treated by an avian vet only as the other type of vet does not know the first thing about birds.

This bird has lived for 35 years, so please, please get him the help he needs right away. Take responsibility for his life since you brought him home. There are NO free pets that I've ever seen and rescues cost money from day one, so get busy and save this one's life.

Let us know what avian vet has to say, and we'll go into how to change him over to organic pellets later if he lives.

Please use this Find an Avian Vet link to find an avian vet for your bird so it can be examined to determine what is wrong and what the potential treatment might be.
