My Baby Conure lower beak

by Jordan
(Puerto Rico)

Hello, Does anyone know why my little conures mandible hook on his beak be gone?

He's only 9 weeks old.
It looks like the hook has been worn down. How could that be, if he is still hand fed?

I let him have apples and carrots Ive cut up, but nothing to hard.

First of all, you need to get your bird in to be examined by an Avian Vet because this is not normal. This could be because of poor nutrition, and if you have not been handfeeding baby parrot handfeeding formula, then this baby is not going to develop his beak and bones properly, and is also not forming muscle tissue either. In other words death will be the end of this story.

What could be happening here is malnutrition, and that is why you must see an avian vet and have the bird examined for weight, diet, possible infections and so on. As I said, this is not normal, and your baby bird will not make it through this and will die if left untreated and/or unfed. You cannot feed fruit alone and expect a bird to develop properly as all animals and birds need a complete diet that includes the correct ratio of protein, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals. Lack of calcium will cause beak to fall off not just break off. Baby parrot handfeeding formula is found here, and in a lot of pet stores as well. It is fed with a syringe, and is a learned skill taught by an experienced breeder.

Certain diseases will also cause this which is why you need a comprehensive exam done by an avian vet.
