My bird is itching a lot, how can I fix this?

by Tiffany
(Puyallup)

My Sun Conure seems to be itchy, we recently took him to a pet store to get his nails trimmed (im to scared to hurt him). Is there a possibility that he got mites from the other birds in the store?? If he does have mites how can I treat him for them? The more natural the remedy the better.

thank you for your advice, I had contemplated getting something to stick to the inside of the cage, but if it wont help any there is no point. I will try out a humidifier or something of that nature.

This is always a difficult question when asked over the Internet. It is unlikely it is mites, but could be. If it is mites, you do NOT want to use anything you can purchase at the pet stores, because they dangerous and usually useless anyway.

It could be dry skin, because this is the time of year we turn our heaters on. You might just need to add some humidity to the room.

People hate that I a always suggesting that they Find an Avian Vet to examine their birds, but yearly exams are a great idea anyway. If your bird sees an avian vet yearly, then any slight changes will be noted and illness will be caught before it is too late.
