My bourke parrot keeps falling off he's perch onto the ground he can't seem to grip or fly very well he has recently losted he's eye too I thought that might of been causing he's clumsy behaviour but when I hold him he's feet don't curl up or grip

Bird keeps falling off his perch

Hi there, I'm very sorry for your dear little bird, it seems as though she has suffered a stroke. Did you take your bird to an Avian Vet? If not, you should please do so immediately.

My dear little Fran (Lutino Cockatiel) suffered a stroke in 2010 and she got over it. Unfortunately she suffered another one only 4 months ago; she was almost 18 years old. I had no choice but to have her euthanized. It was a very difficult decision that I had to make but I did what I thought was in HER best interest.

My poor baby couldn't swallow and according to her vet, eventually she would die. That meant she'd have been starved for hours or even days until that time finally arrived. I couldn't see her suffering a minute longer; may her soul now rest in peace, my dear little Fran.

If your bird is eating and drinking take him to an Avian Vet as soon as possible. With good care and much love he'd get well and you'd have him for many more years to come. I'll remember you both in my prayers. My heart goes out to you both. Take care, all the best and God bless.

Your bird may have had a stroke, but it could be an infection, tumor or disease. Please use this Find an Avian Vet link to find an avian vet for your bird so it can be examined to determine what is wrong and what the potential treatment might be.
