My Blue Masked Lovebird died suddenly

I had an adult Blue Masked Lovebird. He had been with me (along with my African Grey Parrot and Citron Cockatoo) for about 7 -8 years. I don't know how old he was when I purchased him. He lived alone in his cage and showed no signs of illness, ever. No dropping changes, frequency, consistency or color, no feather loss or puffiness, no breathing probs or discharge anywhere, he sang and flew around happily. Yesterday morning I brought them all up for breakfast, he ate his normal bit of banana and seeds, I showered him as normal with a light mist, put him back in his cage and went to work. Later after work, he was dead on the floor of his cage. This really surprised me as there was no clue of illness. I am going to take the other 2 birds in to the avian vet in a few days for a full checkup, just to make sure things are OK with them. Any ideas why he might have died so suddenly?

I am even thinking maybe it was a freak accident like he choked on a seed? Your input is appreciated.

My Blue Mask died this Morning..cold weather
by: Sal

Last night a storm came by and the weather was cold. I'm new to having these birds and I believe I screwed up by leaving him outside in his cage with just a blanket over the cage. I should of put hime indoors. I know he died of the cold weather which dropped to about 45 degrees in Riverside, CA. These are tropical birds and I'veshould of known better. R.I.P. my "Blue"
I think I will research these birds a bit more before buying another.

the reason
by: Anonymous

Im pretty sure he died suddenly beacuase he might have been cold after his bath from being wet and not dried enough, old age, being kept in the same cage with another bird,or a draft.

hope all is well samantha :)

Bird died suddenly
by: Tracie

Please take the bird that died to the vet too so that he/she can test it. There is no way anyone can tell why he died any other way.

It is good you are taking the other birds to the vet to make sure it is not something they have too. Your bird could have had a stroke or any number of things, so don't be worried about the other birds. Your vet will be able to help you when you go there.
