I have to dissagree
by: Jay

I think it is wrong for you to say that "Most birds bought from pet stores are already sick" As a businessman, I'm sure pet shops try their best to assure that their birds are healthy. Otherwise they would not be in business for long.
I also find a problem with you ALWAYS telling people to take their apparently healthy birds to the vet. Get real, a person that just bought a $12 parakeet is not going to spend the money to take that bird to a vet.
i do agree with you, that if the parakeet was really getting picked on, that there might be something wrong with it. But, most people are still not going to spend money going to a vet, unless the bird shows signs of illness.

My Budgies Afraid of me

All new birds are afraid of their new families, their new cage, toys, dishes and homes. She will settle in in a few weeks.

The very first thing you need to do is to take her to an Avian(Bird) Vet in your area. Most birds bought from pet stores are already sick from being moved around and poor care. That may be why the other birds were picking on her. The Avian Vet will check her for infections and parasites and may wish to do a little bloodwork to see how her organs are working.

I urge you to find an Avian Vet and take your bird in as soon as is possible. We recommend a trip to Avian Vet with all new birds within the first week because most are sick with some kind of infection. They do not just get over being sick without being diagnosed and treated by an Avian Vet. Do not take her to a regular dog and cat vet as they are not licensed or trained in how to treat birds and sometimes kill them. Also, do not ask pet store people about anything because they will give you the wrong information or try and sell you something you don't need that can kill your bird. They are not Avian Vets and most don't know what they are talking about, so take her to a real Avian Vet to keep her safe and well.

Once you have taken your bird to the Avian Vet, you can work her more as she becomes less afraid of you. Sick birds will not learn, and it will hurt them to be forced to learn and play.
