My Budgie's sleeping habits

I have a budgie and every night around 6 pm, he goes to the highest perch in his cage to go to sleep. Some time in the morning, he gets off and goes to his usual spot.

I have noticed that lately, he does NOT do this at all! When ever it's 6 pm or after, he just sits on his normal perch and goes to sleep. But, here's ANOTHER thing I've noticed. My budgie has become VERY interested in one of his toys. It has a little bell on the end of it and he loves to play with it.:) He also sleeps right by it.

My question is: why is he doing this? Is he so in love with the bell, he has to sit and sleep by it? Or is he sick?
