My Canary still not singing

by Tony
(Toronto, Canada)

I have a red factor canary and he has been molting since the end of February. It is now May. He still has a few white needles on his head which I believe are new feathers coming in. He tries to sing sometimes but then goes silent and seems almost depressed. From time to time we still see feathers on the bottom of the cage.
His diet is good and he eats his body weight in food, he is alert and playful, but then again he has not come back to his old singing stye. Can you give any advice as I am out of ideas.

Canary not singing - long molt
by: The Avian Vet

This is common in canaries. If he is showing no other signs of illness, the molt is enough to cause what you are seeing and the molt can last 4-6 months. He needs a little more time to finish his molt.
