My dog squished my conure

Last night my boyfriend was holding our green conure and he tried to fly away and he landed on my 70kg mastiff and in an attempt to see what was on his back he rolled over and squished the poor bird! He made an awful shriek and has had a limp leg and has been sat with his beak resting on the ground and eyes closed his leg is splinted for now until we can get him to the vet. Do you think he's in shock or dying??

It's possible, sorry to say. Get the bird to an avian vet, not dog/cat vet, right away. Please use this Find an Avian Vet link to find an avian vet for your bird.

You likely already feel bad enough, but please take notice that your bird should never be out of the cage, unless it is in a bird safe environment.

No dogs or cats etc. (They get startled and bite etc. before they realize they are killing their friend, if they are friendly towards birds.)

No toxic items in the room that the bird can chew.

No items on walls or tables they can land on and the item shift or fall over.

Never allow the bird on the floor, due to potential bird diseases brought in on your shoes, toxic material brought in on your shoes.

This is just a small list, you can use your imagination and come up with more.
