My Dusky Headed Conure is having difficulty walking and balance problems.

by Carol
(Westlake Village, CA)

My Dusky Headed Conure who is about 8-9 years old is having balance and walking problems. He uses his beak to walk on his purch. I took him to the vet 3 weeks ago and the Avian Vet told me he had a blockage in his intestines. He stayed there for 3 days and was kept in an incubator and fed a liquid diet through an eyedropper.

Since he has been home, he is eating but not nearly as much as he used to. I feed him Roudy Bush, which he barely touches unless I hold his food dish next to him to encourage him to eat. He has never been on a seed diet. His diet consist of the Roudy Bush, Soak and Bake, oat grout, millet, apples, blueberries, peppers(not hot), peapods, egg yolks, and recently grass seed which he really loves. I also bought baby food- sweet potatoes and corn. He liked it at first, but now refuses to eat it. Help! I also thought that maybe his nails were too long so I had them clipped but that didn't seem to help. Thanks you

Conure not getting well
by: Tracie

I believe you need to take your bird back to the avian vet or Find an Avian Vet to examine your bird for a second opinion.

It sounds like you feed your bird a healthy diet. If the vet did not do x-rays or schedule a follow up, then find another vet. I hope you find out what is really wrong and there is a solution.

so sorry you are going through this.
