red capped parrot

As someone who breeds this species, I believe that what you are hearing is the female "begging to be fed call". My females normaly start making this sound to the males at the begining of the breeding season, around mid March, and stop when the young are weaned.

Hi, I agree with "D" in that you must do your study on this bird in order to be able to properly care for it. All new birds need to be seen by an Avian Vet within the first few days or week and all need to be seen at least once a year to make sure they are not hiding illness or injury.

When you purchase a bird, you also have to know where an avian vet is within driving distance because all birds become ill or injured sometime during their long lives and will need medical services provided by an avian vet.

Thanks for writing and find out all you can about your bird using the wealth of information available on the internet. Just do a search on your type of bird, and you'll find out everything you need to know to provide a happy and safe life for your bird. Breeders are a good source of information as they have to do things right in order to have healthy babies. They are also normally very helpful as for information as most of them love their birds and want to see them well taken care of.

red capped calls
by: Anonymous

Red caps have continual 'churink' calls, high pitched squeals & chattering contact calls. Young fledglings give off whistle calls.

If you're unsure about her calls or squeaks take her to an avian vet for a wellness check.

BTW: their diet in the wild is seeds, pasture plants, weeds, trees (mainly marri's) & insects, orchard fruits.

In addition to a basic seed diet, they should have a selection of fruit, greens, vegies, eucalypt & cotoneaster branches.

They are NOT the same as most other parrots in in captivity with dieting so please look it up before taking advice on feeding mainly pellets etc... Just an extra bit of info for you :D

Squeeky noise from parrot
by: Tracie

If this is a new sound, and it is not imitating some noise in your house, then "yes" you need to take your bird to an avian vet. It could be an infection.

Since this is an Australian bird, I am not even sure what it normally sounds like, sorry.
