Hello what does it mean when a Zebra Finch loses its feathers and develops pink bumps on its skin? What could be the cause of it?

Zebra finch died
by: The Avian Vet

This could be a skin infection form bacteria, virus, or fungi. It may also be a nutrition problem, such as vitamin A deficiency. It would be best to do a necropsy (animal autopsy) to find out the exact cause, because it could be contagious to other birds.

It is impossible to tell what killed the finch without an Avian Vet performing a necropsy on the freshly dead body of the bird.

If bird was sick and not feeling well BEFORE it died, then they should have taken bird to an Avian Vet for an exam because simple bacterial infections can be cured with proper diagnosis and prescription medicines. This could have been something more serious, and it could be contageous to the next bird who comes into the home, so I would advise they not get anymore birds since they don't know what killed this one. Bacteria and virus' can continue to live in a house and infect every bird that comes through the door for indefinite periods of time.

So, in the future, if a pet dies, the body has to be immediately transported to either a dog and cat vet for dogs and cats or an Avian vet for all birds so a necropsy can be performed. The best remedy for death is to take pets to their own vet while they are sick.

Thanks for writing,
Linda
