i bought a hill mynah around 2 months ago its around 8 months old. initially she never spoke a word. now from few day she is talking one or two words and making all these noises of different type, while she is doing sp she is scratching her body and streaching it. my qustion is that is this scratching normal or has some threat. at normal tymes she never scratches her body only when she is making this noises.
if there is any threat please suggest me any medicine or any precaution that i may use.
also i would ask u how to teach her to talk coz she usually makes all noises of all other pets like dogs other birds and cats etc. very few human words.
also suggest a healthy diet for her like which all fruits and other things i can give her and not give her.
looking forward for ur reply ASAP.
thank you.

Mynah scratching
by: The Avian Vet

The scratching is a common behavior seen in talking mynahs. However, you should have you bird examined by an avian veterinarian to be sure it is not something abnormal.

Do not use over-the-counter medication, and do not use medications without the supervision of an avian veterinarian.

She is very young and if she is talking already then she will eventually be talking much more. Each her by repetition and association. Just talk to her. Teach as you would a child just learning to talk. Work with her daily.

Mynahs need a very special diet. Diets that contain iron can lead to liver failure and death. I recommend looking into Mazuri foods for mynahs, and contact other food manufacturers for their iron contents. Mynahs like fresh foods especially fruits, but this is not a complete diet. Do not add vitamin supplements to a poor diet, this will only make things worse.
