just yesterday i found what seems to be a cut or a scrape ON my female lovebirds right nostril. I don't know how she got it. What I'm worried about is if it can get innfected, and how do i get the skin thats hanging there off? the cut goes through her nostril, and i don't know if its causing her pain in anyway... Please help me take care of my bird!

cut/scrape on her right nostril...

Addendum to Tracie's answer. YES THIS IS HURTING HER, AND YOU'LL NEED TO HAVE THE VET CUT OFF THE EXCESS SKIN and give you the correct medicine to put in and/or on her for infection. This may only require a topical med unless vet thinks it is likely to get infected.

Check the entire cage area for any sharps and this includes on toys bird may have. Sometimes the powder coating on cages will have sharp points where the powder coat was not done properly. These points are dangerous and can cause many serious injuries. Run your fingers along all the bars going in both directions to make sure there is not a spot where there are sharps. When we first got our new Macaw cage, we thought we'd checked it out, but the first day, one of the Amazons had a bloody, cut foot. It took us an hour to find the ONE little spot that was sharp. Of course, the bird found it immediately (LOL!). Your cage will be easier to check. If you find a point, use a metal file or dremmel tool to just knock off the sharp point and regular sand paper to get it smooth. It shouldn't hurt the paint because the sharps are where they allowed the paint to dry in points. Just do a complete check of everything in, on and around cage that could cause this because IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN of this you can be sure.

Thanks for writing,

You need to take your bird to an avian vet right away. Dr. B can not help your bird, because he can not see the bird and treat the wound. Yes, this could become infected, and the bird is hurting.
