my lovebird's beak

by Ann Roberts
(Ryde, Isle of Wight, England)

my lovebird only has one nostril that is visible. On this side of his beak he continually rubs it on his perch, mirror etc. His beak appears to be flaking off on this one side and is becoming a little pink. Is this normal and if not will it heal itself. I must add that this has been going on for some time but just seems to have got a little bit pinker lately. Yo Yo is approximately 15 years old.

Thank you.

Ann Roberts

Lovebird rubbing beak and nare
by: Tracie

I seems that there is a medical problem that needs to be addressed by an avian vet. Dr B can not help, because he can not examine your bird or run any tests.

It is possible that your bird has an infection that is driving it nuts. If you don't have an avian vet, you can look for one on our Find an Avian Vet page.
