My male cockatiels wing bubbles?

by Stephania

A few years ago I accidentaly forgot to bring my male cockatiel inside with the cage. The next morning I found my male cockatiel with a bleeding wing and the white cage bars had a bit of blood. i cleaned it up with a moist soft napkin. Now about 2 years later my male is still very active but his wing has like bumps on it only 2 bumps though. I am using medicine for this cause but I'd like to know the cause of these bumps. Should i put more attention to this and take him to a veteranarian or just keep with the medicine?

Cockatiel with bumps on wing

You should not use any medications that were not dispensed by your veterinarian. I do not know what the medication is that you are using, but it likely is not helping and may be contributing to the bumps. I do not know what the bumps are, but they should be looked at by an avian veterinarian to be diagnosed and treated properly.

You did not say what kind of medicine, and a lot of meds that are okay for us, cats, dogs, etc. are NOT okay for birds. If this med has oil in it, you can kill your bird by using it. Same with any antibiotic cream or lotion.

The bumps sound like they may be a long-term infection or parasite, and I highly recommend you make an appointment with a qualified Avian Vet in your area and take him in for a checkup and tests to determine if he has infection and/or parasites.

Also, never treat a wound that is open to infection without taking bird to vet first. The only people qualified to dispense meds for birds, cats and dogs are qualified vets. Your bird will need to see an Avian vet as the regular vets don't know how to treat birds.

Keep us posted on what vet says and what they find.
