Call your Avian Vet and get him in there for a kidney function test which will be done as a blood test. Considering his age, do not wait to do this because drinking a lot of water indicates a kidney malfunction and especially in the morning when he should not need that much water.

The other thing to be aware of is that tap water all over the country is compromised by chemicals, too many minerals and possibly phosphates which makes water salty. We use an under-the-sink reverse osmosis filtering system we rent from Culligan which gets excess minerals out of our water plus gets all of the dangerous stuff out.

Also, do not give "purified" water to your bird because he needs "some" minerals and the purified water has none. Get a trustworthy filtering system (not Brita or any of the ones you put on the faucet) because they DO NOT WORK to clean the water as it needs to be cleaned.

Thanks for writing and let us know what avian vet has to say,
Linda
