my mini macaw is plucking his feathers

by Heather

Shamrock loves attention but he does bite when e gets stressed out. He has a big parrot playhouse that he plays on daily and a large cage. He is near lots of indirect sunlight and gets covered late at night. I feed him fresh fruits and veggies...and even cooked chicken and scrambled eggs. He has a major attitude and nothing seems to make him happy. Any suggestions??

Macaw plucking and bad diet
by: Tracie

There could be several reasons your bird is plucking his feathers, so you need to take your bird to be seen by an avian vet. It could be because his diet is severely lacking in proper nutrition for parrots (parrots need something besides human food), could be allergic to something he eats or breathes and could have an internal infection for a few.

Please work at converting your bird over to a healthy pellet diet. You can read our Switching Birds to Pellets article for more information.
