My Pale Headed Rosella does not eat Fruits Why ???

Birds from certain parts of the world may not eat a lot of or any fruit. The parrots who usually don't eat much fruit have feathers all around their faces and mouths. The birds who normally eat a variety of fruit are the ones who have "clean" or smooth faces like the entire Macaw family, conures and majority of the South/Central American parrots. There are also some birds who just don't like fruit and would prefer veggies. It is not something to be overly concerned about if your birds are eating an organic, high quality pelleted diet as their base food.

Your Cockatoos, Greys, and other birds from Australia, Asia, Africa have feathers covering their faces and all around their mouths, so they will eat little fruit. Maybe some apple now and again. This can also vary from bird to bird as these guys are everyone an individual with likes and dislikes to every facet of their lives.

Fruit and veggies cannot be more than 10% of a bird's entire diet. If you are feeding your birds an organic high quality pelleted diet, then you should not be worried. If, however, you are feeding an all seed diet, this is a very inadequate diet, with or without fruit and veggies, and you'll need to change birds over to one of the organic pelleted diets Tracie has out here. Your birds should eat some type of veggies like possibly squash or even one of the dark lettuces--no spinich as this interferes with calcium balance.

So, to sum up, your birds need to be eating an organic, pelleted diet like Harrisons or one of the others. Harrisons also makes a great Birdy Bread Mix and use the Sunshine Factor organic Red Palm Oil in it plus 2 eggs and water, and bake at 350 for 30 minutes.

Thanks for writing,
Linda
