My parakeet feather loss and wing problem

by Misti Blake

I have two parakeets. One is only a couple months old. It is losing quite a bit of weight, is holding his right wing down below the other, and losing feathers on the back of his head. I think the other bird is pulling his feathers out, but I'm not sure. What's going on with my bird?

Feather loss and drooping wing
by: Tracie

First, if you suspect that the other bird is plucking it's cage mate, you need to separate them.

Second, you need to get your bird to an avian vet asap. The drooping wing must be examined and treated.

Third, please read Dr B's article on Feather Damaging Behavior article for more information on that.

Dr B can not help you here, because he can not examine your bird. Please separate the birds right away.
