earlier today my son accidently stepped on our parakeet, we have since keep it in the cage and kept it covered, her feet have turned purple now though and she is not moving around or talking as usual, i beleive she is in shock and am keeping an eye on her but i am unsure about her feet.

Bird stepped on
by: Tracie

I am so sorry this happened to your bird and your son. He must feel awful.

Dr. B really can not help since he can not examine your bird. Birds have very fragile, hollow bones that are broken easily. You really need to take the bird to an avian vet if at all possible.

Lowering the perches in a cage with a heating pad on top of it is a good idea. That way if the bird falls off the perch he doesn't have far to fall. You can even put some natural branches on the bottom of the cage instead for the bird to perch on, must make sure that they don't roll.

Cover the top and 3 sides of the cage, if you put a heating pad on top, to keep the warmth in. I hope everything turns out OK.

You really need to get this bird to an avian vet. The very least she needs in pain medication.
