My parakeet/budgie has a hole right under it's beak

by Marlen
(California)

I was feeding my parakeet spray millet and I put it a little bit up, when I saw a hole. I've had my parakeet for 5 days now. I want to know if this is because of loss of feathers or if he needs any urgent medical attention.
When he's in his regualr position he looks normal, he eats normaly, he drinks normaly, plays around, he's a very lovable parakeet, but I'm really worried about that hole.

a birds beak has a straight edge to the back part of the lower one. as long as there is skin joining with the straight edge its fine.

Most all birds bought in pet stores are already sick with various infections. We recommend that all new birds be examined by an Avian Vet within the first few days to a week.

This could be an infection or an injury that is infected. You won't know until your bird is examined by an avian vet. Do not take a bird to regular dog and cat vet as they do not know anything about treating birds.

Thanks for writing,
Linda
