Parrotlet not eating
by: Anonymous

When you first get a baby parrotlet, you should give it some time to adjust to its new surroundings by itself. If you just sit and stare at it in it's cage, it will be too frightened to eat in front of you at first. Give it several hours alone to eat and drink in peace, at least until it gets used to you.

New bird not eating or drinking
by: Tracie

Your bird may be eating and drinking when you are not looking. But if it is actually NOT eating and drinking then you need to take the bird back to where you got it right away.

Clean the cage thoroughly in case the bird has a disease. Then only purchase a bird from a breeder that will give you a certificate of health proving the bird has been to an avian vet (vet's name on certificate) and is healthy.

Birds that have just been weaned sometimes revert back to needing to be hand fed. If you purchase a hand fed bird, ask the breeder to keep the bird an extra week or two to make sure it is completely converted over to healthy pellets. (Colored pellets are full of sugar and chemicals, so get the bird switched over to Harrison's or Roudybush pellets if the bird eats junk food.)
