Diet is the most important factor in your bird having healthy skin and feathers. This is accomplilshed by feeding a high quality 100% organic pelleted diet with recommended additions. Birds eating all seed diets are slowly starving to death, will develop fatty liver disease and are overall not very healthy. Their immune systems are notably weaker which leaves them targets for bacterial and viral infections of all kinds.

Here is link about how to go about changing birds from seeds to organic pellets written by an Avian Vet:

Switching Birds to Pellets article

The other issue here is birds need to be seen at least yearly by an Avian Vet to ensure they are healthy and not harboring any infections or other physical problems. This exam includes basic blookwork to see how organs are functioning, wing, beak and toenail grooming if needed. Do not make any changes in diet until your bird has been examined in person by an Avian Vet and deemed healthy enough for that kind of process.

You also need to provide full spectrum light for your birds. What comes through windows is not full spectrum. The full spectrum light needs to be used with all inside birds to provide simulated sunlight which all birds and animals need to process food properly and be healthy.

Thanks for writing,
Linda
