YOUR BIRD IS SICK AND NEEDS TO BE SEEN BY AN AVIAN VET IMMEDIATELY. The yucky black sludge stuff is supposed to be red exactly like blood, our blood anyone's blood except maybe an alien being(have not seen any of those lately). Have the vet examinine your bird and check for infections, and PLEASE HAVE THEM DO SOME BLOODWORK TO FIND OUT WHAT IS GOING ON INSIDE THIS BIRD. Leave his feathers alone for now until you find out more about what is wrong with him, AND SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH HIM.

Please take him to an Avian Vet in your driving area. Living in Florida means there should be ample Avian Vet coverage as California and Florida are the parrot breeding capitals in the US.

Don't give him any baths, don't do anything else until you have had him thoroughly examined by a vet. Be sure and tell vet what came out of his blood feather and the color and consistency as this MAY give them a clue as to what problem could be or at least where to start on bloodwork.

Thanks for writing, and let us know what the vet had to say as your information can help someone else with a similar problem, and we would just like to know for our own sakes.
