My Ruffles....

by Sue

I just lost my GCC the day before Thanksgiving. She was 21+ years old. She awoke me in the middle of the night by falling from her perch, chirping loudly and flapping her wings. My husband ran to her cage where he found her sitting at the bottom of her cage. He took her out and we sat with her for about 1 hour and she seem ok. Thinking maybe she just fell as she did sometimes, we put her back to bed. She fell again from the perch. When we looked in on her, she was on her back on the bottom of the cage. We slept next to her letting her know we were with her. Awaking the next morning she was on her perch, drinking and eating. When I came home for lunch she seemed fine, ate some bread and again seemed fine. After work I came home and I could see her swing and a few toys were moving in the cage. My poor little Ruffles had passed. I feel awful as I was not here with her and I am so afraid she suffered. My husband keeps telling me she had a long and happy life as she was 21+ years old. But I'm feeling she wasn't that old. I'm not an expert on birds. I miss her ....... I just try to keep thinking she is flying high now free from any pain she might have been going through.
