My Senegal Parrot licks his metal bells daily.

I have a 9 yr old Senegal Parrot and lately he has started licking his metal bells daily. Can this hurt him or is this just a new behavior?

Bird licking bell

If you purchased the toy from my parrot supply store, then it is safe because an avian vet approves all the toys I sell. If you purchased from another reputable store, then it is likely safe too. It all depends on what metal the bell is, some are toxic and will kill birds.

Since your bird has been doing this for quite some time, I suspect the bell is safe and the bird just enjoys licking it.
