Macaw feathers turning red
by: The Avian Vet

This can be caused by poor diet, circovirus infection, chronic plucking, and bacterial infections. It can also be a genetic mutation or abnormality. I recommend that you have your bird seen by an avian veterinarian.

My Severe Macaw's feathers are turning red.

You didnt inculde much information to go on.

Severe Macaws, like any other bird, have mutations. Such as a red factor African grey (which I currently own). Meaning more then just her tail is RED in areas that are meant to be grey.

Severe Macaws generally are green, they can have blue or red feathers coming in. It's actually not rare.

It's apparent if red feathers are appearing, that she's in a molt. Make sure your bird has plenty of calcium and proper nutrition during this time to help relieve stress. Some ppl will feed thier birds certain colored pellets, or foods during the molting season to help bring out different colors, or make them brighter.

However, my grey is genetically mutated, and has a clean bill of health from the avian vet. I'm sure your bird is just a typical mutation of it's breed, and there's nothing to worry over.

During the molt, your bird may act a bit cranky. this is normal. However, if you notice any unusual behavior, or find out thats actually blood on the feathers, vs red feathers coming in, then a visit to an avian vet would be needed right away.

Honestly, sounds like your bid is fine and there is nothing to worry about. Do a google image search, and prehaps you'll see some different mutation colors of a severe macaw.
