My sun conure has suddenly stopped flapping her wings.

My sun conure has suddenly stopped flying. She is acting fine in all other aspects. She is eating, friendly, climbing, drinking etc. She is not sitting on the bottom of the cage when in it, she climbs to the top. Her feet do not feel too warm or too cold.

She had just suddenly stopped flapping her wings or flying.

She will let me extend both of her wings fully, as if I was going to clip them, without complaining. I have felt both of them extensively to see if there was any injury and she tolerates this completely. She just won't flap or fly.

She was perched on my shoulder and became startled and just fell off, she didn't even extend her wings, just fell to the floor with a thump. She is laying eggs on a regular basis even though she has no mate and I don't provide nesting material for her, I would say she averages about two eggs every other month. Could this be a result of egg binding causing nerve problems?

Help

Sincerely, Donna Tirrito

Sun Conure stopped flying
by: The Vet

I do not have a medical explanation of this behavior. Reproductive activity could be contributing to this, including egg binding.

You should have your bird examined by an avian veterinarian and request a set of x-rays as part of the work up. Birds need to go in annually for vaccines and well-bird check ups, too.
