my Sun Conure hit the wall

by Marcela
(Los Angeles , CA.)

My bird was a little stressed today by some birds outside. I started to play with, he and I always joke to play something small in the air and he tries to fly in direction. But today he was not as usual and got scared and fell.

I caught him and he was normal up to 5 seconds when he began to fly like crazy and hit his head on the wall, which left some feathers, he looked like he was trying a convulsing, I cared for him until it passed, then he bit me strong and flew to the window. He acted as if nothing happened and that worries me the most because birds know how to show that everything is fine when in fact they are really bad.

He is playing and nice cuddle, Some times he stop and sleep playing hanging in his toy.

please if you can give me some advise

thank you so much

Bird flying into wall
by: The Vet

My only advice is to take him in to see an avian veterinarian. This kind of injury needs to be seen immediately.

Your bird needs to be seen by an Avian Vet in your area immediately. He could have been seriously injured by hitting the wall. Have the Avian vet clip his Primary wing feathers--just the Primary or first row of feathers is all that needs to be trimmed. This way, he won't be able to fly up, and he will be able to smoothly land as he goes down.

No bird should be left to fly freely through a house as it is dangerous. Please make an appointment with an Avian vet as your bird may have a concussion or other damage to his head and/or brain.

BE SURE TO HAVE VET CLIP HIS PRIMARY WING FEATHERS ONLY AND NO FURTHER UP AS THIS CAUSES PAIN AND CAN CRIPPLE A BIRD. JUST THE FIRST LAYER CALLED PRIMARY WING FEATHERS.
