The very first thing you need to do is to make an appointment with an Avian Vet in your driving area and take both these birds to be thoroughly examined for infections or other physical problems. As for the toenails, avian vet can see if there appears to be any nail bed left as this usually sticks out the end of each toenail. For the nailbeds to be gone means either someone pulled her nails out by the roots or she developed an infection that ate them away.

Either way, both your birds have to be examined by an Avian Vet as soon as is possible to find out if there is a latent infections situation here.

Plase do not delay because your bird's lives could be at stake. If your bird's nails are gone, nailbed and all, you will have to move her perches down lower so she won't fall far if she falls. This may mean having to put her nto a separate cage from the other bird, so do what you have to do after your avian vet visit as they can tell you whether or not nails will ever grow back.

Thanks for writing and best of luck with your new and lovey doves.

Linda
