nail infection

My Umbrella Cockatoo has a nail that suddenly seemed much shorter and smaller then the others with a redish discoloration. What is this a sign of?

Bird's nail

This is not a specific sign of something, but the things that come to mind to be ware of are trauma which could have pulled the nail covering off; and PBFD or Beak and Feather Disease, which causes nail necrosis and they can come off then.

Finally, nutritional problems can cause such changes. Your bird should be eating 80% pellets, if not, switch him now. And of course, you need to take your bird in to see an avian veterinarian to get a diagnosis for this problem.
