Need help with Amazons - sharon uk

by sharon clay

Help me with George my double yellow headed amazon he is usually ok with me and my husband but has started to get more aggressive and have screaming fits more often even though he gets lots of attention from us both.

So i thought the best thing would be to get him a friend for more parrot company so i bought milly my second amazon and have had her a week now.

Even though george seems to like her i have not let him get to close to her as im afraid he could hurt her as he is much stronger than her. And now when i let him out he sits on her cage and will not let me near without biting me he will even fly at me to attack now which make me put him back in his cage.

Please someone help me as i love George very much and want us all to get along better.

Hormonal Amazon
by: Tracie

I sounds like you have a hormonal Amazon. It was sweet that you wanted to get him a friend, but it sounds like he thinks you brought him home a mate.

I honestly don't know what I can say to help, but I did want to mention what I think the problem is. I would hate for you to re-home the new bird since it isn't it's fault what is happening.

If I am correct, this is a tough situation and I feel for you. I know that many people have found success with hormonal birds by decreasing their day time light, simulating winter. Since your bird may have decided he wants her for a mate, this may not make a difference. I just don't know.
