New Bird won't eat

I have a baby parakeet that I got from the pet store on Saturday. It's now Tuesday and she won't eat or drink. Is that normal? How long before she will eat and drink?

The bird must be eating and drinking,as it will not have survived this amount of time.

A new bird may not eat and drink in front of you, and has been dong so when you are not there, or not looking.

The bird is sacred and nervous about the new situation it is in.

Give the bird time and it will settle in.

To help it settle in, sit by the cage and talk or sing to the bird to get it used to you. Tell the bird about your day or how cute the bird is. The bird does not understand what you are saying, but it gets used to you and you voice.

As mentioned the bird is eating and drinking, otherwise it would have died by now.

It is recommended that all new birds are taken for a check-up by an avian vet to make sure they are healthy.

Birds are very susceptible to infections, especially when confined in large numbers in the same cage at a pet store.

Let us now how the bird gets on and thanks for opening you heart to a lovely bird.

All new birds have to be taken to an Avian Vet ONLY within the first few days we have them. Most birds from pet stores are already sick and will die without a diagnosis and treatment by an avian vet. Your bird could be dead in another day or two, so please get him to an avian vet only to see what kind of sickness he has so it can be treated.
