New birds not eating

(MO)

I just bought my bird from petsmart yesterday. I bought 2 parakeets. They don't move around a lot and I can see that they shake a little bit. I thought maybe that was because they were scared. But if I leave the room for a while and come back they're still in the same spot. My mom also bought 2 parakeets the same day I did at the same place. And hers are moving around a lot and cherping. I notice that my moms are eatting the treats she put in there cage and mine don't eat or drink. Or aleast I dont think they are. Im pretty sure there not because so far I've been in the same room with them since yesterday. They just sit in the same spot all day and don't make a sound. I don't know much about birds yet and I don't know what to do if they don't start eatting/drinking soon. My mom told me they will be fine but I'm not sure. Please help?

Editor's note: You need to get your bird to an avian vet ASAP.

Your birds are sick and need to be taken to an Avian Vet in your area for diagnosis and treatment. It sounds like they have infections. If you bought them from PetSmart, I can almost guarantee that your birds are sick and so are your mother's birds. Bacterial and Viral infections are highly contageous, so every bird in the enclosure where they were is sick. Your birds are just sicker than your mother's at this time.

PLEASE TAKE YOUR BIRDS IN IMMEDIATELY AND HAVE YOUR MOTHER DO THE SAME. YOUR BIRDS WILL DIE IF NOT EATING AND DRINKING, AND THEY WILL DO THIS IN A VERY SHORT TIME OF THE SPACE OF A FEW DAYS.

Sad to say, but most of the pet store birds are already sick when they are purchased from lack of proper care and feeding. Most of them come from less than desirable bird breeders who do not take care of their birds. They can't make money if they take care of their birds, so you and many others are sold sick birds who die in the first week or two. It is heartbreaking, and until everyone STOPS buying from the pet store, the suffering will go on and on.

Call quickly and get an appointment to bring your birds into an Avian (bird) Vet in your area. Do not go to a dog and cat vet as they are not licensed to treat birds and will do more harm than good.

Let us know how it goes,
Linda
