Feeding your conure
by: Claire

I have a quaker parrot and I feed her one bowl of fruit and vegetables a day which keeps her nutrients up and she has an seed bowl in her cage at all times with minimal amounts of sunflower seeds in it as it can give your parrot fatty liver disease. Some people do recommend a high quality pellet but I find that seeds work best.

Editor's note: Avian vets see the difference that a high quality pellet diet make. The birds live longer, have less illness and disease and are healthier.

Feeding and caring for new conure
by: Tracie

You will need to have a DNA test done by your avian vet to determine gender, but that is really not necessary if you are not breeding the bird.

The bird is friendly now, but it may become more difficult to handle as it matures. Please read the training articles, especially the ones mentioning conures, at this Parrot Training page link.

Please read these articles for help in converting your bird to a high quality pellet diet. The budgie article applies to your bird, it is just an alternate way to convert birds to a new food.

Your bird may be itching due to the poor diet you are feeding it, and you may also be feeding it something it should not be eating. Toxic / Non-toxic for birds list
