New Green Cheek Conure

by Shelly Brown
(Reno NV USA)

We just got a 6 month old green cheek conure, he/she is very quiet and I am concerned he/she may be sick. He/She has been eating and pooping regulary but compared to the one we resuced for a month this one has hardley made a noise. She also got her wings clipped within the last 2 days so I thought maybe she just needed time to get use to her surroundings. Should I be worried?

Quiet bird
by: Anonymous

My green cheek conure is very quiet. It took him about a week to warm up to us after we got him. He is still not very noisy and definetly not loud like most birds. We have had him 4 months and he is now begining to mimick sounds and has started saying his name, which is MoJo. I won't say he will remain this quiet but, after having cockatiels, this bird is a pleasure to have.

Quite conure

It is possible that the bird is still getting used to it's new surroundings and trying to determine if it can trust you.

It is also possible that the bird is not healthy. Dr B can not tell you over the Internet if your bird is healthy. He suggests that you take your bird to see an avian vet when you purchase the bird and then every year thereafter for checkups and vaccination.

Congratulations on your new bird! If you need help getting your bird switched over to pellets, you can read an article written by an avian vet and some training articles on our Parrot Training page.
