new to me but is he ok?

by Kathy

Hi I just adopted a quaker parrot they think male aprox, 15yrs old. He came from a hording situation then went to metro Denver parrot rescue. I have had him only 3 days. I left him alone like it says in everything I read.

My question is. He is preening all the time, but he is always closing his eye's and he is puffed up quit a lot. I am worried he may be sick or he is just going through a lot and he is tired. He won't eat the chop that MDPR had me make for him but he will eat other things. Please advise me. Thank you so very much.

New parrot possibly sick
by: Tracie

It is possible he is just stressed, it is possible he is sick, it is possible he has a disease. Without an examination by an avian vet, there is no way to know, unfortunately.

Please use this Find an Avian Vet link to find an avian vet for your bird so it can be examined to determine what is wrong and what the potential treatment might be, if the rescue organization hasn't already taken him to an avian vet.

You might contact the rescue, because they are already familiar with the bird, his habits etc. Again, it's just impossible to tell what is going on via the Internet.
