Night Time with cockatiel

by Rebecca

If I sleep with a fan on in my bedroom and that's where I plan on keeping my pet cockatiel will it give him night frights? And do cockatiels whistle or anything in their sleep like a human talks in their sleep?

Night Time with cockatiel

Keeping him in a room that has a fan on all night is not a good idea as he will get drafted and very sick.

I also suggest you cover him with a lightweight pastel colored cover leaving the bottom few inches open for air circulation. I would suggest you find another room without the fan for him during the day or night as fans create drafts which are deadly to birds.

If you are worried about night fright, the cover will help with this. You can also use one of the faint night lights that only come on when it is dark. They are flat and plug in to wall outlet. Make sure light is away from bird as they do need darkness for real rest. I keep one of these plugged into socket in my bird's room all the time, and they seem to do well.

As for noises, you won't hear anything not that they make any noises in the night, because your bird will not be in same room as the fan. Keep in mind how dangerous even mild drafts can be to birds and this includes cross drafts from two windows being opened and bird inbetween. Guard against drafts.Pneumonia will be the result, and can kill your bird.

thanks for writing,
Linda

Cockatiel
by: John

Hi there,I have a cockatiel, and 2 double yellow amazon parrots, and at night they are pretty much quiet as a mouse. I"m not so sure about the fan, because I wouldnt want to give him the chills risking him getting sick. If you have to have the fan on mayby have it on low and cover the bird. My cockatiel is a very social bird and in the daytime loves to be with me on my shoulder, In a room all by there self could lead to other problems, like anything no creature wants to be alone, they need interaction for him to bond with you, I hope this helps
