obsessive behavior in lori`s

by deb
(australia)

our 3 year old lori has a new toy, she? has become attached to the point that we cant touch the toy or remove it at bedtime.normally loving and cuddly she is biting and not eating or grooming.
i broke her last favoutite toy and this replacement has taken over.never before has she become obsessive like this.if the toy isnt in reach all the time she screams and wont sleep.
has anybody seen this before in lori`s?

obsessive behavior in lori`s

when the biting and bad behavior got out of hand i took the toy away. for a day or so squeaky,my lorikeet went mad flying around looking for the toy. most upset, then she calmed down and went back to her loving self.she is eating and grooming, both me ang herself again.i get lots of kisses and right now she is sitting on my hand and will stay glued to me until she gets hungry.
so it was all about the new toy? weird as that may seem.

I honestly don't think this is all about the toy. Your bird may be ill and not feeling well, and this is the way she is telling you about how she feels. She may also be angry about something else not related to toy but to you. Birds do not like changes like moving cage changing toys too much and anything to do with what they consider major changes. For my money, I see a possibly sick bird here.

Please take her to be examined by an Avian Vet in your area as quckly as you can because this behavior is NOT just about the toy. It is abnormal behavior being played out by a possibly sick bird.

Let us know what Avian Vet has to say and thanks for writing,
