Odd Wing... Sticks out funny when she walks..?

by Lauren
(Va, usa)

I have a parakeet, shes about a year old and i got her wings cut, but they looked perfectly fine when i looked at them. But its been a couple weeks and ive noticed that when she walks around on our carpet, she sticks her wing out oddly. The other one is fine and she doesnt seem to have cut any bloodfeathers.... Plus she flies perfectly fine and she only sticks her wing out sometimes. She does have a roommate, he male and older but they are really nice to eachother, and i doubt he could have caused this. So right now im really confused... Any suggestions or info?

When wings are clipped, only an Avian Vet needs to clip them if you are not experienced with it. Only the 6 long primary flight feathers at the ends of each wing are trimmed. Cutting up any higher causes chronic pain and cripples the bird.

Your bird's wing sounds like it has been injured, and I suggest you take her to an Avian Vet in your area for a checkup to make sure it is not broken or otherwise damaged.

Birds allowed to fly all over get hurt flying into walls, mirrors, windows and any manner of hard surfaces. This needs the expertise of an avian vet.

Linda
