Ollie the Budgie
My daughter wanted to get a friend for Sunshine, her Budgie, about a year after she brought him home. When we went to get our Conure's wing and nail trim at the breeder, she picked out Ollie.
At first Ollie was a little bully and we thought he would have to be housed alone. After a couple of days, he settled in and quit chasing Sunshine from the food dish and toys.
Ollie and Sunshine never have become friends. They tolerate each and mostly ignore each other. We had hoped that they would preen each other and be friends. We are disappointed that it didn't work out that way.
We are still happy that they have each other even if they don't preen and play together.
Sunshine talks up a storm. He is our best talker and learns new phrases all the time. Ollie talks, but he only repeats some of what Sunshine says.
Both birds were originally hand fed and hand tame. My daughter did not take the time necessary to keep them that way, so they are not hand tame at all. They do both like to come to the side of the cage and get treats from our hands.
We think Budgies are very smart and fun birds to own.
