One Wing Male Corella - Mating?

by Michele
(N.S.W. Australia)

Our male short billed corella has one wing, due to coming to us from the wild after a collision with a car and the follow up amputation. He is nearly 3 years old. Given that males need their balance while mating, will ours be able to?

The adapt very well & can learn quickly how to keep their balance where needed.

It might be trial & error to start with but there is no reason one wing should stop him breeding with a female.

Yes, your bird should be able to mount the hen and copulate successfully. He will need to learn to compensate in some way, such as holding on to the cage, or maybe he can learn to balance with only the one wing. Birds are amazing at adaptation. I had a Jardine?s parrot with only one leg and he was very prolific.
