Beak open

Agree that it could be something indicative of infection. Mine however just yawns here and there [once or twice a day]. He opens his beak pretty wide, sticks out the tongue really far and usually a bit later closes one eye. If that's what your baby does and otherwise is active /happy, I would not be very worried.

This is what sick birds do sometimes. If your bird has an upper respiratory infection, it cannot get enough oxygen and so will sit with beak open. It also happens when birds are too hot or in a stuffy environment.

To be safe, take your bird to be examined by an Avian Vet ONLY. Do not take bird to regular dog and cat vet because they do not know the first thing about how to diagnose and treat birds or other exotic animals. This visit needs to be done immediately because birds do not get over infections, and they will eventually die.

Thanks for writing and let us know what Avian Vet has to say.
