How much sleep (at night) should a three year old quaker monk parrot get? Should the cage be covered if it must be in some light?

Quaker parrot sleep

Most birds need between 10 to 12 hours of sleep. My Quaker, Rocky, goes to bed between 5 and 5:30 p.m. and is up at 6 a.m. I cover the cage completely but I leave about two inches open at the bottom for air circulation and to let some light in from the night light. Complete darkness gave him night terrors. He doesn't go to sleep right away, I hear him in there eating for a while. He likes his alone time, he actually starts chirping when bedtime is approaching. Like people, birds need to unwind as well. The time you put your bird to bed and uncover him in the morning depends on what works with your schedule, but 10 to 12 hours is the norm.
