Parakeet Acting Wierd!

Hello, My parakeet is 3 years old, and has always been friendly.Would go on my finger, and always be on the perch, and woulden't mind my hand in the cage, and always chipped all day long. We went on vacation for 5 days, and left our bird with my brother who has 2 cockateils both in there own cages.

When we picked up our bird 3 weeks ago, she began acting very different! She stays mostly on the bottom of the cage, and will not chirp! She will not let me hold her, or put my hand in the cage. She is eating, and drinking as normal, but favors the bottom of the cage which is wierd!

I feel like something had happened there! What could have happened? I have left her 2 other times in the past three years, and they had birds, and when she came home she was fine! Please help as I dont know what to do if anything! Thank You so Much1

Parakeet sitting on bottom of cage
by: Tracie

I am sorry about your bird. Sitting on the bottom of the cage is a sign of illness. Dr B can not tell you if your bird is sick, or how to get your bird well if it is sick. Your bird will need to be examined in person to determine if anything is wrong, and if the bird is sick you will need specific treatment for exactly what is wrong.

Please take your bird to an avian vet, not a regular vet, for an exam. Regular vets do not have training for exotic birds and often kill birds due to a lack of experience and knowledge.
