Parakeet ear bald spot

by KF

I have recently purchased a parakeet and have had him for about 2 weeks now. We are guessing that he is around 4 months or so because he has most of the bars on the top of his head to his cere. Just today when I came home I noticed a bald spot around his ear. Is this a start of molting or a sign of disease/sickness? There is no discharge from his nose or eyes. He sneezes a few times in the evenings but other than that looks healthy. Do you think the bald spot could be something bad? He is also the only bird in the house. . .

Parakeet with bald spot

Bald spots of any kind are not normal. When a bird molts, there are not bald spots. Since Dr B can not examine your bird, you will need to Find an Avian Vet to examine your bird in person. Hopefully it is from another bird plucking it before you brought it home or something and not a feather disease or infection.
