Parakeet has strange poop

by Kim Mioc
(Amarillo, Tx)

Good morning,
My parakeet is now 5 years old, and I have noticed in the past 3 weeks that his poop is solid white (no black ring like usual). He doesn't seem to be himself at times, but he is eating and drinking. We do not have a competent avian vet here in town, so I do not know what to do....Please help!|I want to help him, I just am not sure what to do....
Thank you,
Kim Mioc

sick parakeet
by: Lori/Amarillo, TX

I know we don't have great avian vets here but I have used Dr Pearson at Noahs ark for my 3 birds. I used Acoma pine before the vet died but the new vet there is advertising as a bird clinic. A friend uses Dr. Ballinger in Canyon for her Amazon. Any one of these can at least give you antibiotics.

Sick Parakeet - take to vet
by: The Vet

You need a veterinarian. This bird is sick and his droppings indicate he is not eating. He may be pretending to eat, but his droppings do not contain feces (the green part), only urates (the white part).

Put a heating pad on his cage so his environment is 90ºF. Make food and water easily accessible. He should see a Dr so he can get antibiotics, at least. And better, have some supportive care such as tube feeding and fluids.
