My bird was limping
by: Mehlub

My bird was limping for 3 days her hand was open just like Arin said but all you had to do was put cold iceon her for a while every day and now her hand is much better. She's not limping anymore and is much healthier. I hope people use this to help their parakeets. I'm sure this will help parakeets. Oh yah also make sure she doesn't get out of the cage and runs around and hurt herself.

Limping parakeet needs an avian vet
by: Tracie

Hello Gloria,

Dr. B has answer this kind of a question a few times before. First, do not use oil on your birds as it makes them oily as you said.

There are a few reasons, all of which require an avian vet to help with, that can cause what you described. You need to get your bird to an avian vet asap. Dr. B can not diagnose something like this without seeing the bird in person and running tests.
