Hi. My parakeet is not using her foot and she is holding it up with the toes straight out instead of curled up. There is a small scratch on the side of the toe. I was concerned this was a sign of a broken foot?
Parakeet not using foot needs vet by: The Avian Vet
This could be an injury or an internal disease such as egg binding, or abdominal tumor. There are other things that can cause this too. You need to take your bird in to see an avian veterinarian immediately.
Yes, your bird has either a broken foot or toes and has to be taken immediately to an Avian Vet in your driving area to have break or breaks xrayed and taken care of. If you wait too long on this, bones will have to be rebroken in order to be set straight, so please, please don't add this to the pain he is already experiencing every minute of every day. Make no mistake, he is in lots of pain that is unremitting. Please help him by taking him to avian vet quickly.
Let us know what Avian Vet did and how your bird is doing when you can and thanks for writing,
